As I’ve mentioned before, I’ve recently been selected to take part in Aldi Wine Club which requires me to undertake the arduous task of drinking a few bottles of wine, sent to me by Aldi, and tweeting a review of each one. So, first up is the Castellore Chianti DOGC – at £3.99 a bottle, one of Aldi’s budget reds.
The drinking notes provided by Aldi suggest that this wine is best matched with “tomato based pasta dishes and all meats” so I thought it would go nicely with my post-Christmas Turkey and Spinach Cannelloni.
And right I was. It’s a really drinkable fruity red and it complemented the cannelloni really well. I mean, you can tell it’s not an expensive wine – it’s not particularly complex – but for under £4, you really can’t go wrong.
